Chingay Parade Info

Dear MS Dancers,

This year we have been invited to participate and compete in Singapore's Chingay Parade! This is a large scale street parade and celebration that takes place around Chinese New Year. It is a wonderful opportunity for you to get involved with the local celebrations.

I am putting together a group of HS and MS dancers that will represent SAS in the Chingay Parade. I am looking for dancers who have great stage presence - not the most technical dancers!

As it is competition, so we have to follow the rules. The first rule is the number of dancers I am allowed to have. I can only take 42 dancers and 1 person to hold our school banner. The other important rule is that there are a number of external rehearsals that we must attend. Most of these rehearsals will take place at the parade venue, which is the F1 Pit by Marina Bay. These external rehearsals begin between 7:30pm and 8pm. I expect that on average that these rehearsals will run for approximately two hours. So you will need to talk about this with your parents before you audition!

Due to the nature of the event and the rules. I must have full commitment from each dancer. The school will not be able to participate without exactly 43 students involved. This is why I have attached the rehearsal document for you to look at with your parent if you are interested in auditioning to be part of this event.

If you are successful in making the dance group you and your parents will be asked to sign a contract stating that you are both aware of the commitment you are making.

Important dates:
Auditions will be held on Saturday November 16th from 12-1pm in S200.
Full dress rehearsal February 6, at 8pm
Parade 1, February 7, at 8pm
Parade 2, February 8, at 8pm

Please read the schedule carefully and either email me or come and see me after break if you have any questions.

The Chingay Parade is one of the biggest events on the Singapore calendar. It is televised and draws large audiences to watch. I hope you will be interested in auditioning!

Chingay Parade 2014

SAS is going to be participating in the large Singapore Parade, Chingay Parade in February next year. I am currently looking for dancers to be part of this event. I need 42 dancers and I person to carry our signboard. The rules for the Parade Traveling Dance Competition are very specific so I do need exactly 42 dancers and I need these dancers to be completely committed. If anyone drops out we will not be able to participate at all in the parade! Below I have included all of the rehearsal dates that you would need to commit to. Please read them carefully and discuss this with your parents!

Auditions:
Saturday November 16th
12-1pm - (The dancing is simple so the thing that we are looking for is performance!)

Rehearsals:
·            Saturday December 7 - 9am-12pm

·            Tuesday December 10 – 3:15-4:15pm
·            Wednesday December 11 - 3:15-4:15pm

·         January 11 @ 7pm (this is at the end of Christmas Break but if you are back you should attend this rehearsal with me and the Chingay organizers for the finale but it is not compulsory) Venue to be confirmed.

·            January 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 – 3:15-4:15pm

·            January 18 – 8pm Full dress rehearsal with all local groups (venue to be confirmed)

·            January 20, 22, 24, 27, 28 – 3:15-4:15pm

·            January 22 – 7:30pm Combined Rehearsal for Finale 2 (venue to be confirmed)

·            February 3, 4, 5 – 3:15-4:15pm

February 6 - 8:00pm – Full Dress Rehearsal (school bus will be organized to pick up from school and American Club)

Parade 1 – Feb 7 – 8pm school bus will be organized to pick up from school and American Club)

Parade 2 – Feb 8 – 8pm school bus will be organized to pick up from school and American Club)

If you decided to audition for this you and your parents will be required to sign a contract saying that you are aware of the rehearsals and that you are fully committed to representing SAS in the Chingay Parade Performance.

Costume: Ladies you will be required to provide your own nude tights and to have a pair of nude/tan low heels that you can dance in. The rest of the costume will be provided. (It is a fun costume!)

Guys you will need to have white shoes that you can dance in.  The rest of the costume will be provided.

Friday, 18 October 2013

Dear Dancers,

I hope you guys all had a good couple of days off from school. It will be great to see you back in rehearsals starting tomorrow.

As you know we don't do costumes for our first show, instead we focus just on the dance and technique. So instead we all wear the MS Dance Club t-shirt that will be designed by your captains and you wear black bottoms. This means black or nude tights with black dance shorts, black jazz pants or black leggings. Boys this means black basketball shorts or black pants.

You all signed up for a t-shirt size when you signed up for dance. Now I just need you to bring in the money for the t-shirt and our pizza party.

So please bring in $20 in an envelope with your name and grade on it and give it to your  HS choreographer by Friday November 1.

I would like all money in before fall break.

Looking forward to seeing you dance in rehearsals!

Ms v

Letter to Parents,

Dear Dance Parents,

We are off to a successful start with our after school Middle School Dance Program this semester. All of our dancers have been engaged during rehearsals and they are enjoying learning the technique focused dances choreographed by our High School Dancers.

Our showing will be on Friday December 6th at 4:30pm in the Elementary Theatre.

The week of the show the rehearsal schedule will be:
Tuesday December 3rd, 3:15 to 4:15 - Act 1
Wednesday December 4th, 3:15 to 4:15 - Act 2
Thursday December 5th, 3:15 to 4:15 - Full cast, run through
Here is the link to the show order so you know when your child is required: https://docs.google.com/document/d/13glwJRssA7WbQKBGkXslaocqYhj_FLJb15h6kQYjl8M/edit?usp=sharing

We do not costume our first semester Dance Showing, instead we ask the students to buy and wear their MS Dance Club t-shirt and black dance bottoms. This can consist of black tights/nude tights with black dance shorts, black jazz pants or black leggings. The focus this semester is on the students learning the Dance technique not on the costuming. The big costume show is coming up in second semester.

The students indicated their t-shirt size when they signed up for Dance Club this semester. If you could please send in $20 with your child by November 1st to cover the cost of their t-shirt and their pizza party it would be appreciated. Dancers can give their $20 in an envelope with their name and grade on it to their HS choreographers during rehearsals. I will then collect these from the HS students at the end of each rehearsal.

Thank you for your continued support of our dancers and the Dance Program. I look forward to seeing you all on December 6th.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Thank you,
Ms. V.
