Show week rehearsals!


Saturday
, May 3: Tech rehearsal. 
Meet in the auditorium from 8:30am-11:00am. Dance captains will need to stay until 11:30 am. 
If you are in the track meet please discuss your times with Coach Madsen.

The SHOW week (May 5-9) is tech week and THE SHOW! 
Please note that all rehearsals are mandatory

Monday, May 5 is Act 1 from 3:15 pm-4:15
Tuesday, May 6 is Act 2 from 3:15 pm-4:15
Wednesday, May 7 is Full Dress from 3:15 pm-6 pm
Thursday, May 8 SHOW at 4:30 pm
Friday, May 9 SHOW at 4:30 pm

Important note

Dancers and Parents,

We are entering the last week of rehearsals before our show next week. Please note that we have changed the time of the MS Dance Show to 4:30pm on both May 8 & 9. This will allow us more time to get the large number of dancers into costume and makeup. Please note the time change for the shows.

As there is no school on Thursday, the Thursday dances will be rehearsing on Friday instead. Please check the dance bulletin boards for the schedule this week. 

This Saturday, May 3rd, is our full cast rehearsal. We will be starting bright and early at 8:30am to ensure that we get a couple of runs through the show and hopefully all costumes fitted. If your child has their extras they should bring them on Saturday. Students will be finished by 11am, except for the dance captains who needed until 11:30am.

Thank you to everyone who has turned in their costume payments and to those parents who have volunteered to help with hair/makeup and the reception. I will be emailing those parents with more details later today.

Come see the HS Show!!!

Letter to Dance Club parents...

Dear Parents,

We are only a couple of weeks away from our MS Dance Show now, and I just wanted to thank those of you who have already sent in your payment for your dancer's costumes. You should have received an email from me confirming your payment. If you have sent in your payment, but have not received a confirmation email from me, please let me know. If you are yet to send in your payment, please take this email as a gentle reminder that the final date for payment is this Friday April 25th.

Rehearsals are going well, and we will start our tech preparations next week. 

If you are available to help with hair or makeup on the show days it would be greatly appreciated. I am also after parent volunteers to assist with the set up and clean up of refreshments for the Friday afternoon show. Please send me an email if you are willing to help out in any way. 

If you are free tomorrow afternoon (4:30pm) or Friday evening (7pm), I would like to invite you and your dancer to our HS Dance Show. Almost all of the HS choreographers for the MS Show are performing in "2013: A Year in Review".

Upcoming Rehearsals this week, next week, and show week...

We're approaching the show date... Only 3 weeks left!

Just a few reminders...

This week NOBODY will have individual rehearsals. Instead, have your dancers meet in the Theater Studio as close to 3:00 as they can manage - we need to get things started as soon as possible each day this week. 

Next week is your last week with your choreographers. Each dance will have a 15 minute block on stage so that lighting can be set. THURSDAY DANCES HAVE BEEN MOVED TO FRIDAY because of Labor Day, so please take note of that and remind your dancers.

Next Saturday, May 3 we have a tech rehearsal, which you're all required to be at. Please let Mrs. Madsen and Ms. V. know if you cannot make it. We are confirming the time and will let you know sometime this week. It will be in the morning.

Letter to parents...

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you back to another semester of Dance. For some parents this will be your last semester of Middle School Dance and for others it is your first semester. My name is Tracy van der Linden and I am the acting Middle School Director again for our up coming Middle School Dance Show this semester. Our Assistant Director is Mrs. Crystal Madsen and we have the support of Mrs. Sarah Becker and Miss Emamjomeh.

Our show this semester is titled, When I grow up. I would like to extend an early invitation to our show on May 8 and 9 at 4pm in the SAS Auditorium. 

Our second semester show is always a costumed show, which the dancers are very excited about. I have worked with our seamstresses to keep each costume cost to $60 and under. Our Seamstresses have been very reasonable and generous with what they will provide within this budget. 

We are already into our second week of rehearsals and all the dancers have, or are, being measured for each of the costumes this week. Many of your children have signed up and committed to multiple dances. If for some reason you feel this is too many please contact me as soon as possible so I can adjust the costume orders. After Tuesday April 8, I will no longer be able to change the costume orders and you will be committed to the cost of the costumes for your child. 

I have sent out an email with each dancer's costume cost. The cost of $15 for the show t-shirt will be included in the total cost. Full payment for your child's costumes will be due by Friday, April 25th, 2014. Payments can be by cash or cheque. Please make all cheques payable to: Singapore American School. 

On top of the costume cost, all dancers are expected to own some dance basics and/or extras. These items if you don't already own them can be purchased through OKH Ballet (who give SAS students a discount) or Sonata Dance wear. The addresses for these retail stores are Tanglin Shopping Centre #3-19, and Orchard Plaza #3-9 respectively. You can also purchase items like leotards, dance shorts and jazz pants cheaper at Costume Connection 390, Victoria Street, #03-21 Golden Landmark, Tel: 6292 5529. When purchasing leotards please make sure you get the double fronted ones.

I will keep in contact with you over the next 5 weeks of rehearsals. It is a pleasure to be working with our Middle School dancers again this semester and I know they will put together another great show.

Letter to dancers...

Dear Lovely Dancers,

As you know last couple of weeks have been busy week with start of Dance Club and finalizing costumes. You are now committed to these dances and the related costume costs; remember you will get to keep your costumes at the end of our show. I have just sent out an email to your parents with all of these details. I'm also sending it to you so that you can make sure your parents have received it. If they haven't let me know and please send me their email address again. 

I have created a spreadsheet to show the exact dances you're is in and the total charge for your costumes and t-shirt. Will we not be posting this link, but it should have been emailed to you and your parents. This amount is due Friday, April 25th, 2014. Payments can be cash or cheque. Please make all cheques payable to: Singapore American School.

Please place your payment in an envelope with your name and grade clearly on it and hand it into the Middle School Office.

Please check the links, which show the individual cost of each costume and lists the dance extras or basics that each dancer is required to have for the performances. If you don't know where to get these items, email me or come and see me so I can point you in the right direction.
